Ashes to ashes and dust to space!

What do you get if you combine ex-NASA space experts and those who are experts at mortal remains? Well that is apparently what Elysium Space has done to offer a unique package.

For the nominal fee of $2 500 you can send your or your loved ones’ mortal remains into outer space.

The company uses nano-satellites to transport your remains to space. Although there are also other more premium packages if you prefer something more dignified and spectacular.

My favourite is the Shooting Star Memorial. A SpaceX Falcon 9 will take off with the precious cargo and The Elysium Memorial spacecraft will be deployed into earth orbit. This will orbit the earth for the next 2 years and you can track the orbit using the Elysium app.

The grand finale will be when the spacecraft reenters earth’s atmosphere: “Eventually, in a last poetic moment, the spacecraft will harmlessly reenter the Earth’s atmosphere, blazing as a shooting star.”

Pretty cool 21st century burial ritual if you ask me.
